The district of Andagua is located in the province of Castilla in the Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district has an area of ​​472 km². The 2017 census counted 1102 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1559, in 2007 it was 1311. The district administration is located in the 3587  m high town of Andagua with 819 inhabitants (as of 2017). Andagua is 65 km north-northeast of the provincial capital Aplao .

Geographical location

The district of Andagua is located in the Cordillera Volcánica in the central west of the province of Castilla. The Río Andahua crosses the district in a south-easterly direction and ends in the Laguna de Chachas . The shallow runoff of the lake south to the Río Colca is blocked by lava flows.

The district of Andagua is bordered to the west and northwest by the districts of Salamanca and Cayarani (both in the province of Condesuyos ), to the north and northeast by the districts of Chilcaymarca and Orcopampa , to the east by the district of Chachas , to the southeast by the district of Ayo and in Southwest to the Machaguay district .
