Andre Ingram (born November 19, 1985 in Richmond, Virginia ) is an American professional basketball player for the South Bay Lakers of the NBA G-League . He played college basketball for American University , where he finished his four-year career as the fifth-best scorer of all time with 1,655 points. He then spent four seasons with the Utah Flash between 2007 and 2011 and 3.5 seasons with the Los Angeles D-Fenders between 2012 and 2016. Ingram returned to the D-Fenders in March 2017 after a brief stint in Australia with the Perth Wildcats back. The Shooting Guard played for the team renamed South Bay Lakers before joining the Los Angeles Lakers in April 2018. Ingram is the leading three-point thrower in the NBA G-League with 773 points. He has also scored the fifth highest points in league history (3,901) and won the D-League three-point competition in 2010 and 2016.
Life
The early years
Ingram was born in Richmond, Virginia and grew up in a family of four. He loved basketball from an early age and when he was twelve he beat his brother Lucius, seven years his senior, in one-on-one games.
High school
Ingram attended Highland Springs High School in Highland Springs , Virginia , where he led the basketball team as a senior to the Group AAA championship in 2002/03 , the first title in school history. That season, he averaged 22.8 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, while 49 percent of his throws came from the three-point range. He was then named Associated Press Group AAA Player of the Year for his division. He left Highland Springs as two-time Capital District Player of the Year and First-Team All-Metro. As a senior, he was in the selection teams First-Team All-State and First-Team All-Central Region Pick .
College career
First year of study
As a freshman at American University in 2003/04, Ingram started in all 31 games and led the team with 13.6 points per game, which was the fifth best value in the league that season. He was subsequently named Patriot League Freshman of the Year and became the first American University player to receive the award. He scored 16 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals against Maryland on November 22, 2003 in his first college game. On January 14, 2004, he converted eight throws from the three-point line in a 27-point game against the Navy Midshipmen , which was the second-best single game with three points in American University history. Additionally, his 15 three-point attempts against the Navy are the most of an Eagle in a game. He scored a career high of 30 points against Lafayette on February 28 .
Second year of study
As a student in the sophomore year Ingram played in 28 games with 27 appearances at the beginning in 2004/05 and was appointed to the first selection team of the All-Patriot League. He finished the season with 15.3 points per game as runner-up in the league. After being named PL Preseason Player of the Year, Ingram opened the season with 38 points against Virginia Commonwealth University . He recorded six appearances with over 20 points in 28 games, including two games with over 30 points. He was named Patriot League Player of the Week twice in February 2005 and was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 4 Second Team at the end of the season.
Third year of study
In the third year Ingram played and started in all 29 games in 2005/06. He led the team in his consecutive junior season with an average of 12.0 points per game. Ingram had double-digit scores in 19 of 29 games, starting the season with a 24-point game against Washington on November 19. He scored his 1,000th career point while hitting Saint Francis Red Flash, a season high of ten rebounds on January 2. At the end of the season he was appointed to the second team of the All-Patriot League.
Last year of study
In the fourth and final academic year 2006/07, Ingram finished fifth in the Patriot League (15.2 points per game), second in the three-point throw rate (42.4%) and second in the senior Three-point throw rate per game (2.6). He has scored 20 or more points eight times, including a season high of 25 points against Lafayette. As a result, he was appointed to the first team of the All-Patriot League for the second time within three years.
Ingram finished his college career as the fifth-best American University scorer of all time with 1,655 points, and was the team's highest-scoring player for all four years.
He completed his studies with a bachelor's degree in physics .
Professional career
Utah Flash (2007-2011)
On November 1, 2007, Ingram was selected by Utah Flash in the seventh round of the 2007 NBA Development League Draft . He spent four years with the Flash, during which time he became the franchise's leading shooter with 2,098 points. He's also second in rebounds (608), fourth in assists (336) and third in steals (184).
Ingram made his career best in the 2009-10 season when he received the Jason Collier Sportsmanship Award and attended the 2010 NBA D-League All-Star Celebration in Dallas, where he won the three-point contest. Ingram was in the starting line-up in 49 of 50 games, averaging 12.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.5 steals in 34 minutes. He scored 36 times more than ten points, including 24 points in a 104-99 win over Bakersfield Jam on December 5, 2009.
After the 2010/11 season, Flash stopped playing and left Ingram without a team for the 2011/12 season.
Los Angeles D-Fenders (2012-2016)
On March 22, 2012, Ingram joined the Los Angeles D-Fenders . He spent the remainder of the 2011–12 season with the D-Fenders, playing in six regular season games and seven play-off games.
After skipping the entire 2012/13 season, Ingram returned to the D-Fenders for the 2013/14 season. In 45 games (eleven from the start) with the D-Fenders, Ingram averaged 9.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists, while he achieved a success rate of 44.7% from the three-point range and helped the D-Fenders to the West Division Championship.
Ingram did not return to the D-Fenders for the start of the 2014-15 season. He missed the first two months of the season before joining the team on January 12, 2015.
Ingram only spent his second full season with the D-Fenders in the 2015/16 season. In February 2016 he became the leading three-point thrower in the D-League and won his second title in the three-point competition. He won the trophy with 39 of 50 hits in two rounds - an all-time record in the NBA and D-League.
Perth Wildcats (2016)
On October 18, 2016, Ingram signed with the Australian Perth Wildcats for the remainder of the 2016/17 NBL season, marking his first outing outside the United States. However, he only played two games for the Wildcats before seeking release from his contract a week after arriving in Perth , citing mental health reasons for the sudden decision.
D-Fenders, South Bay Lakers and Los Angeles Lakers (since 2017)
On March 6, 2017, Ingram returned to the Los Angeles D-Fenders to end the 2016/17 season with them. He returned to the team that has been called the South Bay Lakers since that season for the 2017-18 season. Ingram averaged 9.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 47 games (seven from the start) for the South Bay Lakers 2017/18 and had a 47.5% success rate in the three-point Area.
On April 9, 2018, Ingram signed with the Los Angeles Lakers for the last two games of the 2017/18 NBA season . He made his debut in the NBA the next day and scored 19 points, including four three-point throws in a 105-99 loss to the Houston Rockets . At 32, Ingram became the oldest American rookie in the NBA since at least 1964. His 19 points were the most by a Lakers player in his first professional game since Nick Van Exel (23 points) in 1993. For players who have their NBA Debuting after the All-Star hiatus , Ingrams 19 points were the most in a debut in 50 years, down from Danny Finn's 28 points in 1953. In the Lakers season finale on April 11, Ingram scored five points, including one off the three-point range, had six assists and three rebounds in 35 minutes in a 115-100 win over the Los Angeles Clippers . Ingram reportedly made $ 13,824 for his three days with the Lakers after earning $ 19,000 for the entire G-League season.
Ingram joined the South Bay Lakers training camp squad in October 2018. In January 2019, he completed his 402nd game in the NBA G-League, making him the sole leader in league games played.
On March 11, 2019, Ingram signed a 10-day contract with the Los Angeles Lakers and returned there for a second assignment. Since Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram were out for the rest of the season due to injury, the Lakers roster had to be strengthened. After his 10-day contract expired, he returned to South Bay for the final two games of the season.
Private life
Ingram has a wife and two daughters. In addition to his basketball activities, he teaches mathematics to children .
