Career
In December 2004, at the age of 15, Limbacher took part in her first FIS race in alpine skiing. She achieved the best result on December 19, 2008 in the FIS Super G from Haus im Ennstal with second place behind Kathrin Hölzl . In March 2007, she was ninth in the downhill at the Austrian championships . She competed in her last alpine race in April 2009. After the 2008/09 season she switched to ski cross.
Limbacher made her debut in the Freestyle World Cup on December 22nd, 2009 and immediately reached 11th place in her first ski cross race in San Candido . At the second race on January 5th, 2010 in St. Johann in Tirol , she won the small final and reached place 5. After two more placements in the top 15, she qualified for the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver . On January 23, 2010, she fell while training for the World Cup race in Lake Placid , tearing a cruciate ligament in her right knee and tearing a collateral ligament . Despite this injury, she took part in the Olympic Games, knocked out in the round of 16 and finished 24th.
In the 2010/11 World Cup season , Limbacher achieved a top 10 placement seven times, and at the 2011 World Championships in Deer Valley she was 23rd. With third place in Alpe d'Huez , Limbacher achieved her first World Cup podium on 11 January 2012 , she celebrated her first World Cup victory on February 25, 2012 in Götschen . This was enough for fifth place in the ski cross discipline ranking. The second World Cup victory followed on January 12, 2013 in Les Contamines . Four days later she suffered a cruciate ligament and meniscus tear as well as cartilage injuries in her right knee at the World Cup race in Megève , whereupon the 2012/13 season ended prematurely for her.
In the 2013/14 World Cup winter , Limbacher achieved two top 10 placings; at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , she came in 22nd. After a rather subdued start to the 2014/15 season , she surprisingly won the gold medal at the World Championships on January 25, 2015 2015 at Kreischberg . In the final of the last four, she came out on top of the French Ophélie David and the Swiss defending champion Fanny Smith . At the end of the season, there were two second and two third places in the World Cup, which resulted in sixth place in the discipline ranking.
Limbacher won two World Cup races in Innichen and Bokwang in the 2015/16 season . Together with two third places, she was fifth best in the discipline ranking. However, on March 3, 2016, she sustained serious injuries in her right knee while training for the last race of the season in Arosa . She suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and the inner ligament as well as damage to the meniscus and cartilage. After surviving rehabilitation, the cruciate ligament tore again during training in January 2017, this time in the left knee, which meant that she missed the rest of the season. After a break of 21 months, she made her comeback in December 2017.
At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , she finished 13th in ski cross on February 23. At the World Cup in France, in Megève , she tore a cruciate ligament for the fifth time in February 2020 - after 2010, 2013, 2016 and 2017.
