Career
In the club
Born in Romania, Ivan started as a junior at the Würzburger Stadtverein SC Lindleinsmühle , before he played as a youth at VfB Stuttgart and Karlsruher SC , until he finally switched to the Stuttgarter Kickers . There he signed his first professional contract shortly before his 19th birthday and made his professional debut on February 9, 2014, when he was in the starting line-up in the 1-0 win against VfB Stuttgart's second team. In January 2016 he moved to the regional league club Rot-Weiss Essen , with whom he won the Lower Rhine Cup in the same year with a 3-0 final win against Wuppertaler SV . During the winter break of 2016/17 Ivan switched to league rivals Wuppertaler SV. In summer 2017 he signed a one-year contract with SV Waldhof Mannheim . His contract with the Waldhöfern was not extended for the 2018/2019 season.
From the end of June 2018, Ivan was active as a test player at the Bundesliga relegated Hamburger SV . However, there was no obligation. On July 20, 2018, Ivan moved to Major League Soccer for the New York Red Bulls . By the end of the 2018 season , he was used 9 times (once from the start) in the MLS. He and the team won the MLS Supporters' Shield for the best team of the regular season. Two more substitutions followed in the play-offs. In addition, Ivan played twice in the farm team , the New York Red Bulls II , in the USL Championship , where he scored one goal. In the 2019 season , 12 MLS appearances (one goal) and 2 appearances in the USL Championship followed. In August 2019, he was released from his contract by Red Bull ("waived").
At the end of January 2020, Ivan joined VfR Aalen from the Regionalliga Südwest . He signed a contract until the end of the 2019/20 season with an option to extend. There he went to two missions before the season was interrupted at the beginning of March and later canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic . His contract was not extended by the club during the summer break, instead he joined league rivals SG Sonnenhof Großaspach at the end of August 2020 , with whom he signed a two-year contract.
National team
Ivan already completed international matches in the junior division for Romania as a teenager . He played his first international game for the DFB on March 5, 2014 when he came on as a substitute for the 1-1 draw for the U19 national team against Italy.
