Joel Gerezgiher (born October 9, 1995 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German - Eritrean soccer player . The offensive midfielder is under contract with SG Sonnenhof Großaspach .

Career

Gerezgiher started his career at SV Niederursel in 2001 and joined the youth team at FSV Frankfurt in 2008 . On July 1, 2012, he moved to the A-Juniors at Eintracht Frankfurt .

For the 2014/15 season he was promoted to the pros there, but was not used during the season due to several injuries. In March 2015, Gerezgiher extended his contract to June 30, 2018. On August 8, 2015, he played his first competitive game for Eintracht in the 3-0 win against Bremer SV in the first round of the DFB Cup . He made his Bundesliga debut on August 16, 2015 in the 2-1 defeat at VfL Wolfsburg when he came on for Marco Russ in the 76th minute .

In mid-January 2016, Gerezgiher was originally loaned to the 2nd Bundesliga for one and a half years without a purchase option to city rivals FSV Frankfurt , for whom he played in his youth. After two missions in the 2015/16 season , he was relegated to the third division with the club , which ended his loan early. After returning to Eintracht Frankfurt, Gerezgiher did not play a role in Niko Kovač's team in the 2016/17 season and did not play a minute. As a result, the contract was terminated at the end of January 2017 and Gerezgiher moved to the third division Holstein Kiel . After he had not played in the professional team of Holstein Kiel for a year and a half and was only used sporadically in the club's top division team, he moved to third division club SG Sonnenhof Großaspach for the 2018/19 season .

Private

Gerezgiher's parents came to Germany from Eritrea in 1985 . There he grew up in Frankfurt-Nordweststadt and graduated from high school before signing his first professional contract .
