Anna Tatishvili ( Georgian ანა ტატიშვილი ; born February 3, 1990 in Tbilisi ) is a former Georgian tennis player who joined the United States in 2014 .

Career

Anna Tatishvili started playing tennis at the age of four. A great hope for the next generation, she and her family moved to Boca Raton , Florida at the age of 13 to train at Chris Evert's tennis school .

In 2005 Tatishvili became a professional player. Shortly after her 16th birthday, she made her debut on the WTA Tour in Miami , and only narrowly lost her first match. In the following years it climbed continuously up the ranking.

In 2011 Tatishvili made his breakthrough. She reached the peloton of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time at the French Open (she lost her first round encounter against Marion Bartoli 6: 1, 2: 6, 1: 6), reached the second round in Miami and the third round in Charleston . At Wimbledon, she lost in the second round to Yanina Wickmayer, who was 19 th , 6: 3, 4: 6, 2: 6. In the summer she won the $ 100,000 ITF tournament in Cuneo and improved to 83rd place in the world rankings.

In May 2012, she was in Budapest for the first time in her career in the semifinals of a WTA tournament, but had to admit defeat Sara Errani in straight sets . She attracted attention again at the US Open when she advanced to the round of 16 and resisted world number one Wiktoryja Asaranka in a gripping match than the clear result of 2: 6, 2: 6 suggests. After the tournament, she was placed 52nd in the world rankings , and reached her best in October 2012 with position 50.

For the Georgian Fed Cup team , she won ten of their 13 games between 2009 and 2012. She has been officially playing for the United States since 2014 , but has not yet played.

Due to recurring injuries, she announced her retirement on March 26, 2020.
