Annemari Sandell-Hyvärinen (born Annemari Birgitta Sandell ; born January 2, 1977 in Kalanti , Uusikaupunki ) is a Finnish long-distance runner .

In 1995 in Alnwick she became European cross-country champion , further medals at the European cross-country championships followed in 1996 in Charleroi (bronze) and 1998 in Ferrara (silver). At the Cross Country World Championships she won gold in the junior women's race in 1995 in Durham and silver in 1996 in Stellenbosch . In 1999 in Belfast she won bronze at the World Cross Country Championships.

On the track she was ninth over 10,000 meters at the 1995 World Championships in Gothenburg , twelfth at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, and 15th place at the 1997 World Championships in Athens . Over 5000 meters she was fifth at the 1998 European Championships in Budapest and was eliminated from the 1999 World Championships in Seville .

From the end of the 1990s she concentrated on running on the road , but was repeatedly forced to take longer breaks due to injuries. In 1996 she won the Giro Media Blenio , and in 1998 she was fifth at the 1998 Half Marathon World Championships in Uster. In 2000, she finished ninth in the Lisbon Half Marathon and 14th in the Boston Marathon .

She then married and had the first of two children in July 2004. Since then she has been a housewife and mother, but whenever possible she takes part in the Kaleva Games , the Finnish championships, which she still dominates in the 5000 and 10,000 meter races.
