Anton Hannecker

Anton Hannecker (born June 4, 1811 in Vilsbiburg ; † January 31, 1885 ) was a German Catholic theologian and orientalist .

Life

Hannecker, son of a cloth and iron merchant, attended grammar school in Landshut as a child . He then studied philosophy and theology in Munich from 1830 to 1834 . On 25 July 1835 he received by Franz Xaver von Schwäbl in Regensburg the priesthood . However, Anton Hannecker did not devote himself to the priesthood, returned to Munich and studied philology and learned the Arabic and Hebrew languages . Hannecker became a religion teacher at the New Gymnasium in Munich . Next he became an inspectorand professor at the royal pagerie . There he learned other foreign languages . He worked at the pagerie for 14 years, after which he became director of the so-called Maximilianeum . In 1860 he was appointed to the royal council. In autumn 1864 Hannecker became cathedral capitular in Eichstätt . There, too, he became a theology teacher at the Lyceum ; In 1870 he was appointed provost of the cathedral . Two years later he wrote The Philistines . At this time his health deteriorated considerably and he sought healing at springs , but fell ill with pneumonia , which progressed quickly, so that Anton Hannecker died on January 31, 1885.
