Anton Kirchebner (painter)
Anton Kirchebner (born June 1, 1702 in Axams , † August 17, 1779 in Inzing ) was an Austrian painter .
Life
Anton Kirchebner was born in Axams in 1702 as the son of Jakob Kirchebner from Grinzens and his wife Margareta Span from Sellrain . He received his first training from Johann Geyer in Innsbruck , after which he probably learned from the giners in Thaur , perhaps also from Anton Zoller or Josef Adam Mölk .
In 1721 Kirchebner created his first well-known panel painting, Lamentation of Christ , for the Red Chapel in Sellrain. From around 1730 he created his own frescoes for numerous churches in North Tyrol. It is part of the end of Rococo painting in Tyrol, in the late works from the mid-1760s influences of classicism become visible. Technically a good painter, his creative achievement is not valued too highly.
In 1732 Kirchebner married Maria Rangger in Götzens , and after her death in 1761 Ursula Tanzer. Two of the six sons, Franz Xaver (* 1736) and Josef Anton (* 1757), also worked as painters.
Anton Kirchebner died in 1779 while painting the parish church in Inzing after falling from the scaffolding.
