Antonio Corradini (born October 19, 1688 in Venice , † August 12, 1752 in Naples ) was a Venetian Rococo sculptor.

Life

Corradini was born in Venice . Until around 1730 he worked mainly in the area of ​​the Republic of Venice, but he also received orders from outside; later he lived in Vienna , Rome and Naples.

In 1718 he was commissioned to erect a memorial for Count Johann Matthias von der Schulenburg , Marshal of the Venetian Armed Forces, on the island of Corfu . In 1720 he received payment for an altar of Blessed Hemma in the cathedral of Gurk in Carinthia . For the Venetian church of Santa Maria dei Carmini he created a sculpture of virginity in 1722-23 .

The “Lushness Vase” by Corradini is in the Great Garden in Dresden , there were other vases in the palace garden in the Japanese Palace , and there is also a Corradini vase in Sanssouci Park in Potsdam .

The imperial court in Vienna

Corradini received orders from the imperial court in Vienna, the capital of the Holy Roman Empire , for the wedding fountain on the Hoher Markt . On November 30, 1728, a free pass was issued “for the seven white marble statues that were to be ordered and brought to the newly built St. Josephi Wedding Columns in Venice ” . For the imperial church of St. He made allegorical figures for Charles Borromeo on the volutes at the sides of two altars.

In the years after the beatification of John of Nepomuk (1721) his tomb was decorated even more splendidly. The celebrations on the occasion of the canonization of John of Nepomuk in 1729 brought such high donations that Emperor Charles VI. suggested building a new, triumphant tomb. The head of the imperial court buildings Gundaker von Althan was supposed to find suitable Viennese artists for it.

The design was provided by the court builder Joseph Emanuel Fischer von Erlach , while Antonio Corradini, who was in Vienna at the time and also created the large wooden model for the casting, made a model sculpture. The Viennese silversmith Johann Joseph Würth was commissioned with the execution. Corradini also designed the bronze reliefs on the base. In 1736 the work was not yet completed, after which local workers continued.

Imperial court sculptor

On May 24, 1732 he was appointed imperial court statuary with an annual salary of 1,500 gulden , plus 500 gulden housing allowance. In 1735 he designed the central statue of Emperor Karl VI. as Roman-German Emperor in the state room of the court library . In 1736 he was assigned to the honorable court service, also called in the court scheme.

In 1736 he designed a hunt theater with the architect and painter Antonio Galli-Bibiena and received a ten-year privilege to hold animal hunts.

On September 8, 1741, his wife Maria died in the Schottenhof at the age of 48 of dropsy . On January 26, 1743, the court granted him a longer vacation from Vienna.

From 1748 he was in Naples, where he for the Cappella Sansevero include the chastity created (Pudicizia); the "Christ covered with the shroud" in the same chapel was completed by his pupil Giuseppe Sanmartino (1720–1793).

Antonio Corradini died in Naples on June 29, 1752.
