Arıcak is a city and capital of the district of the same name ( İlçe ) in the Turkish province of Elazığ .
city
The city is 109 kilometers by road east of the provincial capital. It houses around a quarter (2018: 25.32%) of the district's population.
The previous place name was Mirvan . This is derived from the Kurdish word miran ("gentlemen"). The name "Qerebaxan" is the Kurdish variant of the name of the former administrative unit "Karabegan", which can be traced back to the Aşiret of the same name . The name was changed to Arıcak after 1960.
In 1972 the three villages of Arıcak, Saman and Gümüşyaka were united into one community .
The population of the city can be assigned to the Zaza ethnic group .
district
The district Aricak is located in the southeast of the province, bordering the provinces of Bingol and Diyarbakir . Internally it has the districts of Palu in the north and Alacakaya in the west as neighbors. The county has the second highest population density in the province.
The county was separated from the southern part of Palu County in 1987 . Until then he was an independent Bucak there . At the last census before the change of area (1985) he had as Bucak Arıcak with 11 villages a population of 19,654 inhabitants, with 3,154 in the Bucak capital Arıcak.
At the end of 2018, in addition to the district town, there were three other municipalities ( Belediye ) in the district: Bükardı (2,624), Erimli (3,169) and Üçocak (2,784 inhabitants). In addition, ten villages (Köy) with an average of 414 residents belong to the district. Küplüce with 891 inhabitants is the largest village.
