Sivrice ( Kurdish Xûx , formerly Harbato , from Aramaic xrbato - "ruins") is a city founded in 1938 and the capital of the district of the same name ( İl ) in the Turkish province of Elâzığ . It is located on Lake Hazar (in the northeast of the district) and about 30 kilometers by road southeast of Elazığ.

district

The district was formed in 1936 from the southern part of the central district ( Merkez ) Elâzığ. Dedeyolu was the center of the district until the establishment of Sivrice.

The district is located in the south of the province and borders the Baskil district in the west, the central district (Merkez) in the north and the Maden district in the east. In the south, the provinces of Diyarbakır and Malatya form the border. The reservoir of the Karakaya Dam ( Karakaya Baraj Gölü ) forms a natural boundary to the latter .

In addition to the district town (with about 40 percent of the district population), the district also consists of 50 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 127 residents. Akbuğday is the largest village with 582 inhabitants. The population density is not even a quarter of the provincial average (15 - 63.5 inhabitants per km²).

history

The history of the region goes back a long way. It was ruled by many different peoples and empires. 1234 region by Sultan was Kai Kobad I. part of seldschukischen Sultanate of rum . When this was defeated by the Ilkhan in 1243 , the Seljuks became vassals of the Ilkhan. Later the region was part of the Beyliks of the Dulkadir . In 1366 the Mamluks from Egypt conquered the region and in 1507 the Safavids . The Safavids were defeated by the Ottomans in 1514 and had to withdraw from Anatolia.

In the 1930s, many Turkish settlers from the Balkans and Russia were settled in Elâzığ Province. For these settlers, the village of Sivrice was founded in 1938 on the southeastern bank of Lake Hazar.
