Aranos is a city in the region Hardap in Namibia . It is located on the edge of the Kalahari . The city has around 3700 inhabitants (as of 2011).

Aranos is located on the right bank of the mostly dry Nossob Rivier, around 130 km east of Mariental in the Aranos constituency of the same name . There is a road further east to Botswana and the Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park . Aranos is surrounded by the red sand of the desert, scattered trees and a thorn bush savanna .

Aranos was a village from January 15, 1958 to August 31, 2010 and received city status on September 1, 2010.

A post office was opened in Aranos on December 12, 1908.

Surname

Originally, Aranos was called "Arahoab". In order to avoid confusion with the town of Aroab , the town was renamed Aranos, an artificial name made up of "Ar" (from Arahoab) and "Nos" from the Nossob River.
