The following year the album Dreams In Technicolor by the band Amber # 2 followed, for which Van Petegem contributed vocals and guitar.

Bored of playing in rock bands, he began experimenting with electronic music. In 1999 the first publications as Tin Foil Star followed . These appeared on the Atomic Recordings label , which was operated by a record store in which Van Petegem was active at the time. Van Petegem met Thomas Morr through the distribution of Atomic Recordings , who shortly thereafter founded the Berlin label Morr Music . He gained greater fame in the electronica scene with his albums published on Morr Music under the pseudonym Styrofoam .

In 2004 Van Petegem was involved in the founding of Dieter Sermeus' band project The Go Find , with which he recorded the album Miami , which was also released by Morr Music. Van Petegem also performed live with Sermeus. In the same year, the Styrofoam album Nothings Lost was released , on which Van Petegem added vocals, raps and classical instruments to his mostly instrumental electronica pieces. For the recordings Van Petegem worked with musicians Valerie Trebeljahr ( Lali Puna ), Andrew Kenny ( The American Analog Set ), Ben Gibbard ( Death Cab for Cutie , The Postal Service ), Bent Van Looy ( Das Pop ), Markus Acher, among others ( The Notwist ), Miki Yoshimura ( pitch tuner ) and the rapper Alias ( anticon ) together. After several albums on Morr Music, he switched to the Nettwerk label. There the album A Thousand Words was released in 2008 , on which Jim Adkins ( Jimmy Eat World ), Blake Hazard ( The Submarines ) and Josh Rouse appeared as guest musicians.

In addition to his work as a musician, Van Petegem was involved in various funding projects for young musicians and worked at the Trix music center in Antwerp . He is married and has two children.
