Arthur von Wolffersdorff (born November 10, 1823 in Wolfersdorf , † December 20, 1897 in Verden (Aller) ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

He was the son of Ernst Karl Eduard von Wolffersdorff (1798–1869) and his wife Auguste, née Beulwitz (1796–1870). His father was a Rittmeister a. D. as well as landowners on Auligk and Endschütz .

Military career

Wolffersdorff attended secondary school in Berlin and received private lessons. On May 11, 1841, he joined the 7th Uhlan Regiment of the Prussian Army . Wolffersdorff was promoted to Second Lieutenant there until April 23, 1844 . As such, he took part in the battles at Kirchheimbolanden , Durlach and Kuppenheim with his regiment in 1849 during the suppression of the Palatinate uprising and the Baden Revolution . From October 1851 Wolffersdorff was assigned to the military riding school in Schwedt / Oder for two years . He then acted as regimental adjutant and rose to Rittmeister by May 31, 1859. On the occasion of the Sardinian War he was mobilized in the same year as leader of the 1st Squadron of the 7th Landwehr-Uhlan Regiment. This was followed from November 9, 1859 to April 4, 1860 a command as a division leader of the train battalion of the VIII Army Corps . Wolffersdorff then became adjutant of the 15th Division , to return to the Rhenish Uhlan Regiment No. 7 on February 23, 1861 with the appointment of squadron chief . He led his 4th squadron in 1866 during the war against Austria in the battles near Münchengrätz and Königgrätz .

After the peace treaty , Wolffersdorff became a major in May 1867 and a regular staff officer in February 1868 . In the same capacity, he was transferred to the 2nd Guards Dragoons Regiment on December 11, 1869 in Berlin. After the beginning of the war against France , Wolffersdorf took part with his regiment in the battles near Vionville , Gravelotte , Beaumont and Sedan as well as in the siege of Paris in 1870/71 . For his achievements he received the Iron Cross, 2nd class.

After the end of the war , Wolffersdorff was commissioned on September 26, 1871 with the command of the 2nd Mecklenburg Dragoon Regiment No. 18 in Parchim . On January 18, 1872 he was appointed lieutenant colonel and as such on August 15, 1872 as regimental commander. Wolffersorf gave up this post on April 20, 1873 to take command of the 2nd Hanoverian Uhlan Regiment No. 14 . Promoted to colonel in mid-October 1874 , he was charged with commanding the 19th Cavalry Brigade , which was also stationed in Hanover , on May 13, 1880, with the regiment à la suite . On June 12, 1880, he was appointed commander of this brigade and on January 18, 1881 he was promoted to major general. Due to his many years of service, Wilhelm I awarded him the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves, on September 7, 1881 . With the approval of his resignation request , Wolffersdorff was put up for disposal on February 11, 1882 with the statutory pension .

family

Wolffersdorff married on July 31, 1884 in Berlin with Johanna Thiele, widowed Loeffler (1827-1906). The late marriage remained childless.
