Aspach is a district of the rural community Hörsel in the northwest of the Thuringian district of Gotha .

Geographical location

Aspach is located about seven kilometers west of the district town of Gotha and on the southern slope of the Sallberg , which forms the watershed between Hörsel and Nesse . The Asse brook, which gave the village its name, flows on the southern edge of the village . The Asse is a right tributary of the Hörsel Bach.

history

The place was first mentioned as Asbach in 932 in a document in which it was assigned to the Hersfeld monastery by King Heinrich I. In Asbach was the outdoor or Dinghof of the Lords of Asbach, mentioned there from 1223 to 1450, who later moved to Emleben and died out there towards the end of the 17th century. Then the place in the Tenneberg office came to the von Tangel family , then in different hands and in 1676 fell to the von Wangenheim in Sonneborn , from whom it was sold to some residents.

On March 18, 1994, Aspach was one of the seven founding communities of the Hörsel administrative community . By order of the Thuringian State Parliament on 16 November 2011, the administrative community Hörsel was dissolved on December 1, 2011, through a voluntary merger of ten previously independent municipalities Aspach, Ebenheim , Fröttstädt , Hörselgau , Laucha , Mechterstädt , Metebach , Teutleben , Trügleben and Weingarten the Rural community of Hörsel will be newly formed.

Former mayor

In the mayoral election on June 12, 1994, Ruth Melcher was elected honorary mayor of the community. She was confirmed in office in the mayoral elections on June 27, 2004, June 13, 1999 and June 6, 2010. Her term of office began on July 1, 2010. With the conversion to a rural community, she became mayor of the district on December 1, 2011 (with a term of office until 2016).

St. Udalricus Church

Buildings

Different dates are given about the year of construction of the St. Udalricus church (St. Ulrich) : 1417 and 1519. In 1614 the church was expanded. The tower stands on the southwest corner of a nave from 1871, which was built in place of a building from 1614.

Aspach is best known for its tractor meeting, to which hundreds of tractor owners from all over Germany come every two years to present tractors of all types and times.

Others

In Aspacher Hölzchen , also known as Ritterholz , east of Salberg in the north of the town towards Metebach , the last public execution by beheading took place in the Gotha area on February 18, 1839 . The 23-year-old Johann Heinrich Kästner from Uelleben was delinquent . Before that, on December 31, 1837, he had attacked the 10-year-old Friedrich Weisse from Aspach, slit his stomach and gave him a. a. robbed six pfennigs. By pressing his stomach together with his hands, the boy was able to save himself to his grandmother's house in Metebach, where he reported on the outrage. Kästner was arrested that same night in Uelleben and taken to the Gotha court, where he was tried. The executioner was the well-known executioner Georg Friedrich Wittig from Bad Langensalza . Today, next to a hiker's hut, a stone atonement cross reminds of the crime scene and, at the same time, the place of execution.
