revue
Lindenberg presented the songs by Atlantic Affairs on a revue tour of the same name . The show showed Lindenberg traveling on a ship from New York City to Bremerhaven, finding compositions, films and texts from German exiles in old suitcases from a surprising inheritance and these together with the ship's crew and passengers in new forms such as engine room rock or performing ballroom ballads . The role of a steward is taken on by a professional actor.
The revue premiered on May 5, 2002 in the Stadttheater Bremerhaven , with Otto Sander playing the steward. The following year, Lindenberg went on tour in Germany with other artists on the album, guest star Nena and actor Heinz Hoenig . They appeared in the Thalia Theater in Hamburg and in the concert hall Die Glocke in Bremen. In June 2003 the show performed with Ben Becker in the role of steward at the Ruhr Festival in Recklinghausen, and in October with Peter Lohmeyer in Vejle, Denmark . In 2004 three concerts followed in China, one in Beijing and two in Shanghai , where Cui Jian appeared as a guest star .
The revue was filmed in 2002 under the title Atlantic Affairs - Stars That Never Go Down with Heinz Hoenig and Horst Buchholz under the direction of Hark Bohm , broadcast on ARD and is available on DVD.
Success and review
Atlantic Affairs is one of Udo Lindenberg's less successful albums. It was a week in the German charts and reached number 76. Only 7,000 copies of the record were sold, while earlier albums reached six-figure sales.
The performance of the revue in the Majestic Theater in Shanghai was far from sold out with 1,300 spectators, which was attributed by critics to the lack of reference to China.
