Aubigny was a family of Norman nobility who rose to the nobility in England in the 12th century. She came from Aubigny in the Cotentin .

The rise was triggered by the marriage between William d'Aubigny and Adelisa von Löwen , the widow of King Henry I of England, in 1138 . The acquisition of Arundel Castle and the Honor of Arundel led to the title of Earl of Arundel , which was created by the changing coalitions in the English Civil War from 1135 to 1154 CE. a. was supplemented by the title of Earl of Sussex .

The family died out in the male line in 1243. The property was divided between the four sisters of the last earl. The title of Earl of Arundel was given to John FitzAlan (* 1223, † 1267), who became an Earl of Sussex.
