August Beckmann
August Beckmann (* 17th May 1852 on Good Karlsminde ; † 14. March 1914 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a Prussian politician , member of the Prussian House of Representatives ( German Conservative Party ) and longtime district administrator of the district of Usingen .
Education and life
August Beckmann was born as the son of the landowner Carl (Friedrich Ulrich) Beckmann (January 6, 1816 - 1879) and his wife Elisabeth Wilhelmine Dorothea, née Schwerdtfeger (September 19, 1822 - November 28, 1893) on his father's estate. After receiving initial instruction from a private tutor, August Beckmann attended grammar school in Eutin from 1864 and graduated from high school there in 1871. After high school he studied in Heidelberg and Leipzig law . In Heidelberg he became a member of the Corps Guestphalia in 1871 . He completed his studies in 1875 with a doctorate. jur. from. From 1875 to 1876 he was a trainee lawyer at the Kassel district court , then served as a one-year volunteer with a Saxon regiment and was a government trainee from 1879. Further steps in his administrative career were activities at the district offices of Kassel-Land and Fulda, the Hanover finance department and, from 1885, the Stade government.
August Beckmann was Protestant and married to Elisabeth (Ida Anna Mathilda), née Kirsten, the daughter of the landowner Eduard Kirsten.
District Administrator
After the Usingen district was detached from the Obertaunus district in April 1886, Beckmann became the provisional district administrator. He received his official appointment on December 12, 1886. He remained District Administrator in Usingen for a total of 28 years until his death in 1914 . As a district administrator, he was particularly committed to promoting agriculture. The first supply of many communities with gas, water and sewage fell during his term of office. He also supported the construction of the Bad Homburg, Usingen and Weilburg railway line intensively.
Honors
The city of Usingen made him an honorary citizen. There, the District Administrator Beckmann Strasse is named after him. He was appointed to the Privy Councilor and was awarded the Grand Ducal Hessian Order of Merit (Komtur II class), the Princely Bulgarian Order of Civil Merit (Komtur ), the Prussian Order of the Crown (III class) and the Red Eagle Order (IV class).
MP
From 1891 to 1899 and from 1904 to 1913 he was elected to the Prussian House of Representatives for the constituency Wiesbaden 6 ( Oberlahnkreis , Landkreis Usingen). From 1893 to 1913 he represented the Usingen district in the Nassau municipal parliament . From 1901 to 1914 he was a member of the regional and provincial committees.
