August Pschorr
August Pschorr (born October 1, 1862 in Munich ; † October 20, 1935 there ) was a councilor and general director of the Pschorrbräu AG beer brewery in Munich.
Life
His father was the Kommerzienrat Georg Pschorr jun. (1830–1894), his mother Johanna geb. Fischer-Dick (1838-1918).
After attending elementary school in Munich August Pschorr came as students in the Hessel'sche Institute in Frankfurt and then in the commercial apprenticeship in cereals business Pfister, Mayr & Co . He then entered the Pschorr brewery as an intern and studied from 1883 to 1884 at the Technical University of Munich and at the brewery school in Weihenstephan . During his studies he became a member of the Armed Forces and later Landsmannschaft Bavaria zu Weihenstephan . To study brewing, he traveled to Northern Germany , Denmark , Sweden , England and America . In October 1889, Pschorr entered his father's business, which was founded in 1820, and became an authorized signatory and partner .
His father Georg Pschorr was an uncle of the composer Richard Strauss . Richard Strauss and his cousin August Pschorr often played music together when they were young. Strauss dedicated a number of compositions to him, such as the Soldier's Song in 1878 (Op. 48, 1878) and, on his 21st birthday, Variations for String Quartet on a Dance by Cesare Negri (1604) in Milan, score three and a half pages, written in September 1883.
On June 7, 1893, August Pschorr married Hedwig Bassermann (* 1874), a daughter of the publisher Otto Friedrich Bassermann . They had three children together: Johanna (1894–1895), Walter (* 1895), who later became a graduate engineer and director, and Gabriele (* 1899), who married Horst Freiherrn von Uckermann on September 27, 1919 . From this marriage a daughter, Ingeborg Freiin von Uckermann (* 1920), and two sons were born.
After his father's death in 1894, August took over the brewery together with his two younger brothers, Georg Theodor Pschorr and Joseph Pschorr , which they jointly managed until it was converted into an AG in 1922.
Since then August Pschorr has been General Director of Pschorrbräu AG . Pschorr was a commercial judge for nine years , city councilor for the city of Munich for 23 years and first director of the Munich Breweries Association for 24 years . Together with brewery director Rudolf Funke , member of the board of the Schultheiß-Patzendorfer-Brauerei AG , he was the coordinated president of the German Brewers Association and Vice-President of the Bavarian Brewers Association .
Due to the high quality of the brewery products, August Pschorr was appointed purveyor to the court of the German Emperor and purveyor to the imperial court . He received several orders and decorations such as the Knight's Cross First Class of the Order of the Zähringer Löwen , the Order of Merit of St. Michael IV Class with the Crown, the Prince Regent Luitpold Medal in silver and the Cross of Merit for War Aid . In 1904, Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria awarded him the title of royal Bavarian commercial councilor. Later he was appointed to the secret council of commerce.
