Karl Axel Erwin von Rehekampff (nickname Axel; born September 10, 1879 in Carmel on the Großenhof ; † December 14, 1953 in Darmstadt ) was an Estonian politician , businessman and farmer on Ösel .

Life

Karl v. R. attended grammar school in Arensburg and studied chemistry , agriculture and political economy at the universities in Berlin , Halle and Jena . In 1901 he earned his doctorate in philosophy (Dr. phil.) On "Economic Relations between the Islands of West Estonia" . From 1902 he managed the Feckerort estate and researched the acclimatization of fruit varieties from Central Europe and conifers in Estonia . He founded the first fruit tree nursery on the Estonian island of Ösel and supported the sale of fruit trees on the Estonian mainland. At the same time he began to develop the north-eastern coast of Ösels and promoted summer stays for those looking for relaxation. From February 24, 1914 to September 5, 1915 he was appointed mayor of Arensburg and was director of the Arensburg branch of the Riga commercial bank. In 1915 he was sent to Siberia and returned to Arensburg in 1918 after the peace treaty of Brest-Litovsk . In 1918 he was reinstated as Mayor of Arensburg by the German military government on the Baltic Islands. In the United Baltic Duchy he was a member of the Baltic State Council and a delegate to the Imperial Chancellor, Count Georg von Hertling . He had been in Germany since 1919 and worked as a businessman, he was naturalized in Germany in 1922 and died in Darmstadt in 1953.

Origin and family

Karl Axel v. R. came from the Lower Saxon noble family Riesenkampff called Rehekampff , who had lived on Ösel since around 1600. His father was the Estonian district administrator Karl Hans Alexander von Rehekampf (1846–1925), Lord of Mento and Parrasmetz , who was married to Katharina Emilie von Rennenkampff (1850–1937). His brother was the lepidopterologist Elmar Wilhelm Georg von Rehekampff (1869–1941). Karl Axel Erwin vR married Margherita von Ekesparre from Kangern auf Ösel in 1902 (* 1883 in Kangern; † 1972 in Darmstadt). Her son Günther von Rehekampff was born in 1903 and lived in Königsberg .
