history

The ship design is based on the type ST-368 from the Norwegian ship architecture firm Skipsteknisk. The construction contract was awarded to the Dutch Damen Shipyards Group in July 2016 . Here the type of ship, adapted to the needs of the Angolan Ministry of Fisheries, is listed as the “Fishery Research Vessel 7417” (FRV 7417).

Technical data and equipment

The propulsion of the ship takes place diesel electrically by two electric motors, each with 1650  kW power . The motors act on a propeller . The ship is equipped with a bow thruster driven by an electric motor with 600 kW power and a stern thruster driven by an electric motor with 400 kW power. There is also an extendable propeller pod in the bow area, which is driven by an electric motor with 700 kW output. The ship has a dynamic positioning system .

For electricity generation are three diesel generators available, two generators of a Wärtsilä - diesel engine 9L20 kW each 1710 power and a generator from a diesel engine Wärtsilä of the type to be driven 6L20 1140 kW type. An emergency generator powered by a Caterpillar C6.6 ACERT diesel engine with an output of 125 kW is also available.

The ship meets the requirements of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea with regard to the emission of underwater noise (ICES 209).

The superstructures are located in the middle of the ship. Various laboratories are housed in the deck superstructures. There is space on board for 29 crew members and 22 scientists. There is an open working deck behind the superstructure.

In addition, a crane is installed on the starboard side that can lift 8 t and operate the working deck. There is also a lifting tool for launching and retrieving research equipment on the starboard side behind the superstructure. Another crane for moving loads is installed on the forecastle .

The ship is equipped with winches for towing nets and research equipment and has several echo sounders . The ship is equipped with two extendable keels that house various research instruments. It is set up for the use of an ROV .
