Baden is located on the Weser, on a ridge in the Aller glacial valley , near the confluence of the Alte Aller and the lock canal. There are extensive moor , forest and marshland areas around Baden . Baden's lowest point is on the Weser (approx. 7 m above sea level). The highest official point in Baden and thus Achims is the Schraderberg in the city forest at approx. 47 m above sea level. A former garbage dump in northeast Baden exceeds this with approx. 52 m above sea level.

Baden mountains

The Baden mountains are located in the village of Baden. The landscape is characterized by the Wesermarsch in the west, by dune elevations of up to 40 m and the Badenermoor in the east. Until the 19th century, the area was only sparsely populated, and the people lived from growing potatoes , raising sheep and the factories that were outsourced to the city of Bremen. Today the entire Badener Berg is built up with partly villa-like houses. In some places (for example at Haus Hünenburg), however, a clear view over the Weser valley is still possible. Depending on the weather, the view extends to Verden in the southeast or to the Wildeshauser Geest in the west.

Stadtwald (formerly oil storage)

The Baden oil store was part of a bunker from the First World War and served as a transshipment point for fuel . From 1917, 14 underground tanks were created. During the Weimar Republic , the oil warehouse was rented to oil companies. As part of the remilitarization of Germany before the Second World War , the oil storage facility was expanded to around 36 tanks. Emerged unscathed from the Second World War, the tanks were blown up by the English occupation forces at the end of 1945. The area was then used as a training site for the German Bundeswehr .

Similar to other practice areas, a typical sand- heather landscape was created like in the Lüneburg Heath . In the years 2003/2004 151 different plant species were found in the oil store.

The on-site training area and the associated Steuben barracks were closed at the beginning of 2003. By 2012, carried out conversion of the barracks site and the former oil camp for conservation and recreation area Achimer city forest and the development of peripheral areas to residential and commercial purposes. In the course of the redesign, parts of the forest disappeared (approx. 10 percent).

history

Baden is mentioned for the first time in the history of the Archdiocese of Hamburg , which was written by the Bremen cathedral clerk Adam von Bremen . Archbishop Unwan - presumably at the beginning of his tenure in 1013 - transferred the proceeds of the royal court Botegun to the Bremen clergy in gratitude for his appointment as archbishop. In 1168, Count Gunzelin I. (Schwerin) a . a. Baden ( Bodegen ) as a fiefdom of Heinrich the Lion in return for the order to march with an army against the Archbishop of Bremen . In the 13th century, Baden was the central place of obedience Baden of the Bremen cathedral chapter. In the 16th century, Baden consisted of the three aristocratic estates of wooden bathing , water bathing and rush bathing .

For centuries, Baden was a rural village: in 1885, 897 residents (170 families) lived here in 152 residential buildings. That changed in the 19th century. In 1820 the Bremen – Verden road leading through the town was paved and in the 1830s the right slope of the Weser was removed and terraced. A dairy was set up in 1894, a railway stop was built in 1899, a post office was opened in 1902 and in 1914 Baden received electricity. At that time, Baden and the Baden mountains were a popular excursion destination, especially for citizens of Bremen.

On July 1, 1972, Baden was incorporated into the city of Achim.
