Railway stations in Lower Saxony |
The breakpoint Osnabrück Altstadt (until 2009 Osnabrück-Hasetor ) is a 1896 opened railways - operating agency in Osnabrück with links to regional transport in the city . The station is located on the Löhne – Rheine railway line and was named Osnabrück-Hasetor , as it is in the immediate vicinity of the former city gate on the former city wall. More than 2,800 travelers use the stop every day, which is connected to the regional routes to Rheine – Bad Bentheim, Bünde – Bielefeld, Vechta – Bremen, Bünde – Hanover – Braunschweig and Oldenburg – Wilhelmshaven. There is also a direct connection to the city bus service.
location
The stop is in the inner city of Osnabrück on the border with the Sonnenhügel district . The stop itself is elevated due to the route through the urban area. The stop is particularly popular at city festivals - above all the Christmas market and the May week - as it is much closer to the cathedral and market square than the main train station .
history
Before the Hasetorbahnhof was opened, citizens and merchants from Osnabrück had collected the money for the construction of the train station through donations. Since the main train station is outside the city center, the citizens of Osnabrück wanted a centrally located train station in the old town, which is close to the town hall, cathedral and St. Mary's Church. The station was opened on June 14, 1896 as Hasethor station. Seven years later the name was changed to Hasetorbahnhof without the "h".
renaming
The controversial renaming to Osnabrück Altstadt took place when the timetable changed in December 2009. The city council decided on the new name at the initiative of retailers in the nearby Hasestrasse. The financing, which was borne entirely by the city (around 10,000 euros), was controversial. The new name, according to the official justification, should make it clear to passengers that the stop is in close proximity to the city center. The main station, however, is further away from the city center. In addition, it is hoped that Hasestrasse will be upgraded and thus stronger sales in the retail sector. In the Osnabrück vernacular, however, the "Hasetorbahnhof" is still often used.
Redevelopment
As part of the continuation of the “Lower Saxony is on the train!” Project, the Osnabrück Altstadt train station was also renovated and expanded by the summer of 2012. The main focus was on the extension of the platform to 220 meters and the long-planned accessibility. The complete renovation cost around 1.6 million euros, which are borne by the federal government, the state of Lower Saxony and Deutsche Bahn. Stairs, underpasses and roofs have also been renewed. In addition to the Osnabrück Altstadt train station , 37 more train stations in Lower Saxony are being renovated. The then Mayor Boris Pistorius broke ground on February 6, 2012 to kick off the project.
Investments
The stop has a partially covered island platform with two platform edges with access through a tunnel. The track of the port railway , on which the NordWestBahn depot is located, runs on the same track body .
Local transport tariffs
The tariff of the Verkehrsgemeinschaft Osnabrück (VOS) is not valid for rail transport, so city bus tickets cannot be used. However, the stop is also in the area of the North Rhine-Westphalian tariff association Westfalentarif . Tickets of this tariff are valid both on trains and on the Osnabrück city bus. The old town stop is again not included in the VOS-Plus tariff for the Osnabrück – Bielefeld railway line via Halle (Westphalia) . These tickets are valid on the city bus and to Osnabrück main station , but not to Osnabrück old town.
As part of the Münsterland tariff , tickets for the NRW tariff are valid to Osnabrück Altstadt (and entitle you to continue on the city bus from the Altstadtbahnhof). These also apply to trips to Bünde , Bielefeld and Minden , but not to the train stations in Melle and Bissendorf . The general DB tariff is used for all other destinations and, since 2013, the Lower Saxony tariff has been used for other destinations in Lower Saxony .
links
In the 2020 timetable year, the stop will be served by two regional express and two regional train lines.
