The Bahraini dinar ( Arabic دينار بحريني, DMG Dīnār baḥrainī ) is the currency of Bahrain . The dinar is divided into 1000 fils (فلس). Inflation was 3.5 percent in 2006 and the ISO 4217 code is BHD.

The dinar replaced the Gulf rupee in 1965 with a ratio of 10 rupees = 1 dinar and was also used in the emirate of Abu Dhabi between 1966 and 1973 . Today the Bahraini dinar is the second most valuable currency per currency unit worldwide after the Kuwaiti dinar . The dinar has been officially tied to the US dollar rate since 2001 (1 USD = 0.376 BHD). There are currently considerations to replace the dinar with a common currency of the Gulf states .

There are coins of 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 fils in circulation. The 1 fils coin used earlier has been taken out of circulation. In addition, the Bank of Bahrain issues banknotes in denominations of ½, 1, 5, 10 and 20 dinars.
