The Ngultrum ( དངུལ་ ཀྲམ ) (dNgul Tam - "silver coin", abbreviation BTN) is the currency of Bhutan . In 1974 it replaced the Bhutanese rupee , which traded under the name of the Indian rupee .

Coins are divided into 5, 10, 20, 25 and 50 chhetrum and 1 ngultrum. Banknotes are in circulation at 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1000 Ngultrum.

The sub-currency Chhetrum was called Chetrum until 1979 . The ngultrum is linked in a ratio of 1: 1 to the Indian rupee , which is also legal tender in Bhutan. All banknotes in circulation in India can also be used in Bhutan. However, the ngultrum is not accepted in India.
