Lawrence McFarlane "Baldy" Northcott (born September 7, 1908 in Calgary , Alberta , † November 7, 1986 in Winnipeg , Manitoba ) was a Canadian ice hockey player . Between 1928 and 1939 he played in the National Hockey League for the Montreal Maroons and the Chicago Black Hawks in the positions of left winger and defender . His greatest career success was in 1935 when he won the Stanley Cup with the Montreal Maroons .

Career

Northcott began his career in the National Hockey League (NHL) in the 1928-29 season when he made five games for the Montreal Maroons . From the following season , the player, who can be used both on the offensive and on the defensive, was then regularly used for the Maroons. Baldy Northcott had his statistically most successful season in the 1932/33 NHL season , when he was able to achieve 22 goals and a total of 43 scorer points in 48 completed games . Because of this performance, he was elected to the NHL First All-Star Team this season.

In 1935 , Northcott won the Stanley Cup with the Montreal Maroons after the team defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Stanley Cup Final . In 1937 he took part in the Howie Morenz Memorial Game . After ten seasons for the Maroons, Baldy Northcott was given to the Chicago Black Hawks on September 15, 1938, along with Earl Robinson and Russ Blinco . Montreal received $ 30,000 in return. Northcott ended his playing career after a season for Chicago. He then supervised the Winnipeg Rangers from the Manitoba Junior Hockey League as head coach and general manager , with whom he was able to win the Memorial Cup in 1941 .
