Bastian Knittel (born August 8, 1983 in Stuttgart ) is a former German tennis player .

Career

Knittel, who lives in Ditzingen , took part in the qualification for a Grand Slam tournament for the first time at the French Open in 2007 , but was eliminated in the first qualifying round. In 2010 he was able to reach the second qualifying round at Wimbledon and at the US Open . In July 2010, Knittel qualified in Stuttgart for the first time for the main draw of an ATP tournament, but lost in the first round against Pablo Andújar .

Bastian Knittel's greatest success on the ATP Challenger Tour was the victory at the Heilbronn Open in January 2011. In addition, he was able to win eight future tournaments in his career. His best world ranking position in singles was place 157 on February 28, 2011 and in doubles place 201 on September 26, 2011.

His greatest success at an ATP tournament is the win against the favorite Ivan Dodig in July 2011 at the tournament at Hamburg's Rothenbaum . In 2013 he was able to qualify for the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time. At Wimbledon he reached the first round, but was eliminated there against Juan Mónaco in three sets. After the Heilbronn Open 2014 , he ended his career.

Knittel played in the German Bundesliga for the Solingen TC 2008 in the 1st and 2009 in the 2nd tennis Bundesliga . In 2010 he played in the 2nd Bundesliga for TC Ravensburg , 2011 for Vacono TC Radolfzell and in 2012 in the 1st Bundesliga for 1. FC Nürnberg .

Knittel has been a tennis trainer at TC Bad Friedrichshall since 2014.
