Beau Biden
Joseph Robinette "Beau" Biden III (born February 3, 1969 in Wilmington , Delaware ; † May 30, 2015 in Bethesda , Maryland ) was an American lawyer and politician ( Democratic Party ). From 2007 to 2015 he held the office of Attorney General for the US state of Delaware. His father is US Vice President Joe Biden , who served from 2009 to 2017 .
Life
Beau Biden was born in 1969 as the eldest child of politician Joe Biden and his first wife, Neilia Hunter. In 1972 Biden's mother and younger sister were killed in a car accident. He and his younger brother Hunter survived seriously injured. After his father remarried in 1977, Biden was raised by his stepmother, Jill Biden . In 1981 his half-sister Ashley Biden was born.
After college , Biden studied law at the University of Pennsylvania and Syracuse University College of Law. From 1995 to 2004 he worked as a lawyer for the US Department of Justice in Philadelphia . In 2004, Biden became a partner in the Wilmington-based law firm Bifferato, Gentilotti, Biden & Balick . He also served intermittently as a consultant in the Office of Policy Development and as a prosecutor in the US Attorney's Office. Biden had been married since 2003. The marriage had a daughter, Natalie, and a son, Hunter.
In 2006, Biden successfully ran for the office of Attorney General of Delaware; he won with a share of the vote of 52.5 percent against the Republican Ferris Wharton. He was sworn in and took office in January 2007. In this position, he was particularly noticeable for his advocacy of stricter surveillance of sex offenders released on parole. In 2014 he did not stand for re-election.
On 27 August 2008, on the third day of the Democratic National Convention in Denver , where Barack Obama as a presidential candidate and Biden's father Joe Biden were formally nominated as vice presidential candidate of the Democrats, joined Beau Biden speak at the Assembly of the Democratic delegates. In his address he briefly presented the life story of his father and acted as the official introductory speaker for the appearance of Joe Biden, who, following his son's speech, gave his speech as an officially nominated vice-presidential candidate at the party conference. In the US media, Beau Biden was traded for the office of Senator of Delaware even before the 2008 presidential election as a possible successor to his father, who was elected as the new Vice President, who took over the position in January 2009 . Although it was Ted Kaufman first interim successor Joe Biden, but he had already declared not to run again at the official election in November of 2010. Beau Biden was considered the Democratic Party's most promising candidate against the likely Republican candidate, Delaware Congressman Michael Castle , but decided against a Senate candidacy in January 2010.
As an officer in the Delaware National Guard , Biden served in the Iraq War from October 2008 to September 2009 .
In May 2010, Biden was admitted to hospital with headache, dizziness and numbness and, after being observed briefly, was discharged a few days later with the diagnosis that he had suffered a "minor stroke ". In August 2013 he was hospitalized again due to weakness and disorientation. He then presented at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston , where a small biopsy was taken from a brain lesion . It then became known that he had developed a malignant brain tumor, which resulted in his death on May 30, 2015.
