Charles Brown Lore (born March 16, 1831 in Odessa , Delaware , † March 6, 1911 in Wilmington , Delaware) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1883 and 1887 he represented the state of Delaware in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Lore attended the public schools of his home country, the Middletown Academy in Delaware and subsequently until June 1852 the Dickinson College in Carlisle ( Pennsylvania ). After completing a law degree and being admitted to the bar in 1861, he began to work in his new profession. As early as 1857, Lore was employed in the administration of the Delaware Senate . During the Civil War , he served with the New Castle County draft board. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1869 and 1874 he was Attorney General of Delaware.

In 1882 Lore was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Edward L. Martin on March 4, 1883 . After re-election in 1884, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1887 . For the elections of 1886 Lore declined to run again. After leaving Congress, Lore was named Chief Justice of the Delaware Supreme Court in 1893 . He held this office until 1909. In 1909 and 1910 he was also a member of a commission for the revision of the laws ( Code Commission ) of the state of Delaware.
