Henry A. Houston

Henry Aydelotte Houston (born July 10, 1847 in Dagsboro , Delaware , † April 5, 1925 in Milford , Delaware) was an American politician . Between 1903 and 1905 he represented the state of Delaware in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Henry Houston attended the public schools of his home country and the Newark Academy , from which today's University of Delaware emerged . After graduating from college, Houston worked in agriculture. In 1872 he temporarily moved to Missouri . He returned to Delaware three years later and settled in Milford. Houston taught for the next five years; after that he worked in trade. He was intermittently a member of the Sussex County School Committee .

Houston was a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional election of 1902 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he replaced Republican L. Heisler Ball on March 4, 1903 . In addition to Ball, William A. Byrne ran for the Republican Party in the elections. That gave the Republicans two candidates who took votes from each other and enabled Houston to win the election. Since he was no longer running in 1904, he was only able to serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1905 .

After his tenure in Congress, Houston worked in wood processing and banking. Politically, he has not held any other offices. He died in Milford on April 5, 1925 and was buried in Millsboro .
