John W. Causey

John William Causey (born September 19, 1841 in Milford , Delaware , †  October 1, 1908 ) was an American politician . Between 1891 and 1895 he represented the state of Delaware in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Causey first attended private schools and then the Albany Academy in New York . He then studied at the Pennsylvania Agricultural College . For the rest of his life he occupied himself with agricultural matters in addition to his political activities.

Causey was a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1875 and 1877 he was a member of the Delaware Senate ; In 1884 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention , where Grover Cleveland was nominated as the party's presidential candidate. After his election, Cleveland appointed him tax collector for the state of Delaware. Causey held this office from 1885 and 1887.

In 1890 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he replaced John B. Penington on March 4, 1891 . After a re-election in the year he was able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1895 . For the elections of 1894 he decided not to run again. He continued to devote himself to agriculture and became president of an insurance company. He withdrew from politics. John Causey died on October 1, 1908 in his birthplace in Milford and was buried there.
