George B. Rodney

George Brydges Rodney (born April 2, 1803 in Lewes , Delaware , †  June 18, 1883 in New Castle , Delaware) was an American politician ( Whig Party ) who represented the state of Delaware in the US House of Representatives .

George B. Rodney was part of a family that produced many well-known politicians. This included Caesar Rodney , Caesar A. Rodney and Thomas Rodney . His father Daniel Rodney was Governor of Delaware from 1814 to 1817 and also briefly represented his home state in the US Senate .

Rodney graduated from Princeton College in 1820 ; thereafter he worked as a notary at the registry court and as an officer at the Guardianship Court of Sussex County . Eventually he studied law , was inducted into the bar in 1828, and began practicing as a lawyer in New Castle County .

Rodney was politically active from 1840, when he was elected to the House of Representatives in Washington ; he prevailed with 54 percent of the vote against the democratic incumbent Thomas Robinson . The Congress , he belonged to a re-election in 1842 - this time with all nine votes ahead of Democrat William H. Jones - between 4 March 1841 and 3 March 1845. As a result, he concentrated again on his legal profession. In 1861 he took over as CEO of Delaware in the peace convention in Washington, has been trying in vain in which the impending Civil War inevitable.
