Elisha D. Cullen

Elisha Dickerson Cullen (born April 23, 1799 in Millsboro , Delaware , † February 8, 1862 in Georgetown , Delaware) was an American politician . Between 1855 and 1857 he represented the state of Delaware in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Elisha Cullen attended Princeton College , which later became Princeton University , and then studied law. After his admission to the bar in 1821, he began to work in Georgetown in his new profession. Politically, he first appeared as a member of the American Party in the 1850s .

In the congressional election of 1854, he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC against the Democratic incumbent George R. Riddle . Cullen took up his mandate on March 4, 1855 and was able to exercise it until January 3, 1857 for only one term because he was defeated in the elections of 1856 William G. Whiteley . After his tenure in Congress ended , Cullen returned to practice as a lawyer. He died in Georgetown in 1862.
