David Buckson (1941)

David Penrose Buckson (born July 25, 1920 in Townsend , Delaware , † January 17, 2017 in Milford , Delaware) was an American politician . From 1960 to 1961 he was governor of the state of Delaware for a short time .

Early years

David Buckson attended the University of Delaware until 1941 . During the Second World War he served as a major in the US Army in the South Pacific. Upon his return, he continued his education with a law degree at Dickinson Law School in Pennsylvania . There he graduated in 1949.

Political career

Buckson was a member of the Republican Party . In 1956 he was a board member of his party in Delaware. Between 1956 and 1957 he was a judge at an appeals court. In 1956 he was elected lieutenant governor of his state. So he was until 1960 Deputy Governor Cale Boggs . When he resigned after his election to the US Senate on December 30, 1960 from his office, Buckson had to end the remaining term of office. In this case that was exactly 19 days until January 17, 1961. On that day he handed over the office to Elbert N. Carvel . From 1963 to 1971 he was Attorney General of Delaware. In 1964 and 1968 Buckson ran unsuccessfully for a term of his own as governor. In 1975 he became a judge in a family court in Delaware. He had four children with his wife, Patricia Maloney.
