Location of the Beibei District in Chongqing

The district of Beibei ( Chinese  北碚 区 , Pinyin Běibèi Qū ) of the southwest Chinese government- direct city of Chongqing has an area of 755.42 km². In censuses in 2000 and 2010, Beibei counted 646,577 and 680,360 inhabitants, respectively.

Administrative structure

At the community level, Beibei is made up of five street districts and twelve large communities . These are:

Liangjiang New District

The large communities of Caijiagang, Shijialiang, Shuitu and Fuxing also became part of the so-called "New City District" Liangjiang (两 江 新区Liǎngjiāng Xīnqū ) , which was founded on June 18, 2010 . It also includes parts of the Jiangbei and Yubei districts . However, Liangjiang is not a city district in the administrative sense, rather it is a measure to promote economic development. It is administered by the "Liangjiang New District Development and Development Committee" (两 江 新区 开发 建设 领导 小组Liangjiang Xinqu kaifa jianshe lingdao xiaozu ), which is made up of representatives from Chongqing City and the districts concerned. Accordingly, Yubei will remain fully within the previous administrative boundaries, including the people's government and the associated political structures (people's congress, consultative conference) for the time being.

Partnerships

Beibei has been twinning with the city of Santa Fe , Argentina , since 2014.
