Tongnan ( Chinese  潼南 区 , Pinyin Tóngnán Qū ) is a Chinese municipality in the government- direct city ​​of Chongqing . It has an area of ​​1,584.97 km². The district of Tongnan was formed in 2015 from the former district of the same name. In the 2000 and 2010 censuses, Tongnan had 860,016 and 639,985 residents, respectively.

The sculptures in the Great Buddha Monastery of Tongnan (Tongnan Dafo si moya zaoxiang 潼南 大 佛寺 摩崖 造像) and the residence of the Yang family (Yangshi minzhai 杨氏 民宅) from the time of the Qing Dynasty have been on the list of monuments since 2006 of the People's Republic of China .

Tongnan has had a town partnership with the Lower Saxon city of [Rinteln], [Germany] since 2019.
