Benedikt Kraus

Benedikt Kraus , also Benedict , Benedictus , Krauss (* 1725 in Salzburg ; † before 1813 , probably in Linz ) was an Austrian composer.

Life

Benedikt Kraus' curriculum vitae is difficult to reconstruct. He worked as Kapellmeister in various places and courts, so in Vienna , Munich , Bonn (before 1761), Basel (1761/62), Baden-Baden (1762/63?), Ottobeuren Monastery (1764-1767), Linz and Trieste . From 1785 to 1790 he was music director in Weimar for the troupe of Joseph Bellomo (1754–1833) at the court theater . This was followed by stations in Coburg and again in Linz, where he most recently “struggled with want and poverty” as a music teacher.

Franz Xaver Glöggl was his student.
