Bernhard Blaszkiewitz

Bernhard Blaszkiewitz (born February 17, 1954 in Berlin ; † in December 2021 there ) was a German biologist . From 1991 to 2014 he was director of the zoo in Berlin and from 2007 to 2014 in personal union also director of the Zoo Berlin and the aquarium Berlin .

Career

Bernhard Blaszkiewitz studied biology at the Free University of Berlin after graduating from the Canisius College in Berlin . From 1974 to 1978 he completed the apprenticeship in the zoo in Berlin and in 1978 he graduated with a diploma. In 1979 he was a volunteer assistant at the zoo in Frankfurt am Main and in 1980 he moved to the Ruhr Zoo in Gelsenkirchen as a curator . In 1984 he became a curator at the Berlin Zoological Garden. In 1987 he received his doctorate as Dr. rer. nat. at the University of Kassel ; In 1991 he moved to Tierpark Berlin as director. From 2008 onwards, Blaszkiewitz was repeatedly accused of his leadership style and the way he treated animals.
