Bernstein is a scattered settlement in western Styria in the municipality of Hirschegg-Pack in the Voitsberg district , Styria .
Place name and geography
The name part -stein is derived from the name for a rocky area, a stone or rock, which in turn was named after a man named Pero or Bero or after a bear .
Bernstein is located in the central part of the municipality of Hirschegg-Pack, south of the village of Hirschegg , in the south-eastern part of the cadastral municipality of Hirschegg-Rein, on a hill above the northern bank of the Bärenbach , a tributary of the Teigitsch .
history
Amber was created in the 11th or 13th century in a high medieval clearing area with individual courtyards and wastelands. The first written mention of the place was in 1395 as am Pernstain . Further mentions followed in 1456 as Pernstayn , 1497 as an Pernstain and finally in 1883 as Bernstein .
The residents of Bernstein initially belonged to the Hirschegger office and organ master's office of the Krems rulership , but they sold it to the Rein monastery in 1629 . Some of the residents were also under the rule of Pack and Modriach and the St. Lambrecht monastery. The St. Lambrecht Abbey sold its office in Hirschegg in the 16th century to the disgrace of Weissenwolff . From 1805, Bernstein belonged to the advertising district of the Lankowitz rule .
Economy and Infrastructure
Amber is shaped by agriculture.
The local children attend elementary school in Hirschegg.
Buildings
The Scherbauerkreuz, a tabernacle shrine, was erected in the 17th century as a plague cross and was badly damaged in 1986. Today it serves as a house cross.
