Billal Bennama (* 14. June 1998 in Albi , France ) is a French boxer in the flyweight . He is around 1.75 m tall, southpaw and trains at the Blagnac boxing club .

Career

Billal Bennama started boxing in 2007. He was French junior champion in 2013 and 2014, and French youth champion in 2015 and 2016. He reached 9th place at the 2014 Junior European Championships, 7th place at the 2015 European Youth Championships and also 7th place at the 2016 World Youth Championships . At the 2016 Olympic qualification tournament in Baku , he was eliminated in the second fight against Joselito Velásquez out.

In 2017 he won the French adult championships for the first time and won the silver medal at the U22 European championships in Brăila . He only lost 3-2 to Harvey Horn in the final . In 2018 he repeated winning the French championship and again took part in the U22 European Championships in Târgu Jiu , where he was eliminated in the semi-finals against Daniel Asenow with a bronze medal. At the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona in 2018 , he was eliminated without a medal, as well as at the 2018 EU Championships in Valladolid after a 3-2 defeat by Gabriel Escobar .

At the Cologne Boxing World Cup 2019 he won the gold medal and beat Hamza Touba in the final . He also won an international match against the Cuban world champion Yosvany Veitía . At the 2019 European Games in Minsk, he lost again to Daniel Asenow and was eliminated in 6th place. He then started at the 2019 World Championships in Yekaterinburg and achieved his greatest success to date when he reached the semifinals with victories against the Olympic medalist Hu Jianguan , the two-time European champion Vasily Yegorow and the Commonwealth Champion Galal Yafai . There he retired with a bronze medal against the Olympic champion Shahobiddin Zoirov .
