Gabriel Escobar Mascuñano (* 22. July 1996 in Madrid ) is a Spanish boxer in the flyweight .

Career

Gabriel Escobar is 1.61 m tall and southbound. He started boxing in 2006 and trains at the Tristan boxing club under Jose Manuel Tristan. He was Spanish youth champion in 2013 and 2014, defeating José Quiles and Samuel Carmona twice . He was also a participant in the 2014 European Youth Championships in Croatia and the 2014 World Youth Championships in Bulgaria .

In the adult field, he became the Spanish champion in 2016 and won the Bocskai tournament in Hungary with victories against Jack Bateson , Elie Konki and Ilyas Süleimenow . In the European Olympic qualification 2016 in Turkey , however, he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Awtandil Tschubabria.

In 2017 and 2018 he won the silver medal at the U22 European Championships in Romania . He lost in both final bouts against Daniel Asenow . At the 2017 European Championships in Ukraine , he only lost in the quarter-finals to Brendan Irvine and was thus qualified for the 2017 World Championships in Germany . There he defeated Hamza Touba and David Alaverdian before being eliminated in the quarterfinals against Yosvany Veitía .

In May 2018 he won the Box-Am tournament in Spain with a final win against Hu Jianguan . He also won the gold medal at the 2018 Mediterranean Games and the 2018 EU Championships . He defeated Batuhan Çiftçi, Dušan Janjić, Hussein Al-Masri, Billal Bennama , Nodari Darbaidze and Will Cawley in the two tournaments .

In 2019 he won the European Games in Minsk and this time defeated Daniel Asenov in the final.

World Series of Boxing

Escobar has been boxing for the French team Fighting Roosters in the World Series of Boxing (WSB) since 2018 and has so far won two fights against Vincenzo Picardi from Italia Thunder and Jorge Grinan from Cuba Domadores .
