The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Severo ( lat. : Dioecesis Sancti Severi , ital. : Diocese of San Severo ) is in Italy situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in San Severo .

The Diocese of San Severo was established in 1062 as the Diocese of Civitate and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Benevento as a suffragan . In 1439 the diocese was dissolved and incorporated into the Lucera diocese , from which it was spun off again in 1478. On February 21, 1580 Pope Gregory XIII. With the Apostolic Constitution Pro excellenti, the seat of the diocese of San Paolo di Civitate was moved to San Severo. In addition, the diocese of Civitate was renamed the Diocese of San Severo . The diocese area now consisted of the merger of the areas of the dissolved dioceses Civitate and Dragonara , which were rebuilt in 1968 as titular dioceses . The diocese of San Severo was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Foggia as a suffragan on April 30, 1979 .
