Bleak House is a British television series that, in 15 episodes, tells the lives of people who are directly and indirectly involved in the Jarndyce vs Jarndyce litigation that has lasted for decades. The legal dispute serves more as a framework. The series is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Charles Dickens .

The miniseries is set in 19th century Great Britain . In particular, it tells the story of Esther Summerson, who grew up as an orphan and is now hired by John Jarndyce as a ward for the lead plaintiffs in the Jarndyce case, Richard and Ada. At the same time, Mr. Jarndyce also becomes Esther's guardian.
Production and publication
The multi-part series was filmed by Andrew Davies for the BBC . The first new episodes were directed by Justin Chadwick and episodes 11-15 were directed by Susanna White . Except for one 60-minute episode, all episodes are 30 minutes long.
The series first aired on BBC One from October 27 to December 16, 2005 . Further broadcasts followed in Finland, Venezuela and Hungary. In Germany, the DVD was released on May 14, 2013, before the pay TV channel Passion showed the series from May 16 to July 4, 2013.
