The Blochziehen is an old carnival tradition , which especially in Fiss is maintained in Tiroler Oberland. This custom is supposed to drive out winter.

As of October 2011, the bloch pulling in Fiss belongs to the intangible world heritage , as it is declared by UNESCO , on the Austria list (national cultural asset , area social practices, rituals and festivals ).

To custom

The Fiss carnival custom owes its name to the bloch , a 35-meter-long pine tree trunk . It represents a plow that breaks up the fields for sowing and thus heralds the beginning of spring. In addition to the evil, the long winter is put to an end.

The Blochziehen is similar to the Larchzieh'n in Umhausen . Similar carnival customs in the Tyrolean Oberland are the Schellerlauf in Nassereith , the Schemenlauf in Imst and the Telfer Schleicherlauf .

Sequence of block pulling

Every 4 years, the Fisser Blochzug ring in at 12:30 p.m. at the Kulturhaus in Fiss with the scream “Des is scary”.

During the festive parade, the Bloch is pulled through the village on decorated wooden sledges by the bear drivers (symbol of the nature tamers), the Mohrelen as well as the farmers and craftsmen, accompanied by the Schallners (the latter both symbols of spring). The carter gives the command “Hüa!” With a loud shout. At the end of the trunk, the Schwoaftuifl ( tail devil ) amuses the spectators. Guided by the temptation to stop the train, he dances around the block with crazy ideas and pulls the block against the direction of travel with a fixed rope. He receives support from his gruesome witches with their wild screams and waving brooms. His assistants embody the evil demons and the bitter winter.

Over 10,000 spectators are expected when the Blochzug is celebrated with wild shouts, colorful, sometimes eerie masks and loud band music, in which only men are allowed to participate.

The last dates were on January 26th, 2014 and on January 28th, 2018. The next Blochzug will take place on January 30th, 2022. However, every two years there is also a children's hole drawing.
