history

The Telfer Schleicherlauf has a long tradition, the origin of which is unclear. Historical sources go back to the late 16th century (1571, 1612, 1621, 1631). With the formation of the "core groups" (including Schleicher, Bären, Laninger) around 1830, today's form slowly developed. Since around 1890, sneaking has taken place every five years. In addition to fixed elements such as costumes, larvae , mask constellations, current topics are also taken up and thematized in satirical performances.

In 2010 the Telfer Schleicherlauf was included in the "national register of intangible cultural heritage" of the Austrian UNESCO commission. This was preceded by a lengthy submission process in which several expert reports had to be submitted by independent experts ( Karl C. Berger , Thomas Nussbaumer and Franz Grieshofer ).

Procedure and characteristics

The Telfer Schleicherlauf takes place every five years, usually at the beginning of February, depending on the date set by the Carnival Committee. The all-male Carnival Committee is elected by around 500 men from Telfs and the surrounding area on the Josefi Day before a Carnival year and appointed for five years. The chairman of the committee is the incumbent mayor of the market town of Telfs. The carnival committee, which consists of 14 groups (Sonne, Heralds, Musibanda, Jahreszeiten, Wilde, Schleicher, Bären and Exoten, Laninger, Vogler, Galtmahd, Bease Buam, Bachouf'n, Kurpfuscher, Soaf'nsnieder) is responsible for the organization and the Responsible for the process of sneaking. In numerous meetings during Carnival (November to February), all the preparations for building the wagons, sewing the clothes and rehearsing the parades are made in numerous meetings.

A specialty of Schleicherlauf is the "sun worship". On the day of the riot, the sun is worshiped early in the morning in every place where the Schleicher hops their "Kroas" later.

The actual sneaking begins on the day of the performance after the last gun crash at 11 a.m. The Schleicherlauf consists of different groups and begins in the Luma district. Characteristic of the Telfer Schleicherlauf is the group of Schleicher with their large hats on which themes of rural life and certain symbols are depicted. The group is preceded by the most striking figure, the lantern-bearer in harlequin robes. He is followed by the inner group of the sneaks, which in turn is led by the so-called forerunner or Vorhupfer.
