The Perchtoldsdorfer Hütereinzug , known locally as Petersdorfer Hiataeinzug , is a traditional harvest festival for wine growers in the market town of Perchtoldsdorf in Lower Austria . In 2010 the festival was included in the national list of intangible world heritage in Austria .

Wine keeper

With Hiata wine keepers are meant to guard during the ripening of the grapes, the vineyards day and night in the guardian house. Even if guarding is no longer necessary today, the custom is still practiced. When the grape harvest is over, the Hiatabuam return to the town with a great ceremony. These celebrations have their origins in the Middle Ages . The oldest lists of wine keepers date from the 16th century. However, no exact dates are known. What is certain is that the Hiata collection experienced a renaissance in 1910, after viticulture in Perchtoldsdorf had recovered after severe phylloxera damage .

Thanksgiving

The date is set annually with the Sunday after the name day of Saint Leonhard on November 6th. Even the preparatory work that takes place the week before is subject to a fixed schedule.

The festival itself begins on Saturday with the pre-celebration .

The actual Hiata entry takes place on Sunday. At the head of the incoming convoy, three hiata ride on decorated horses to the parish church , followed by the music of the mason and the rest of the hiata who carry the hiata straps with them . It is a wooden frame over two meters high, hung with grapes in the shape of a pyramid and decorated with ears of wheat . The bed is rotated while being carried, i.e. H. let dance .

The train first visits the fair and then continues across the market square to the nearby town hall .

The highlight are the Gstanzln written by the wine growers themselves , which humorously deal with what is going on in the village throughout the year.

On Monday there will be an end to the celebration in the circle of the hiatal father.

The arrival of the guard is also a reminder that in 1422 the wine keeper Thomas was knocked down by brewery assistants at the White Stone and then rescued and nursed back to health by wine growers.
