UNESCO cultural and natural heritage in Austria
Cultural and natural heritage in Austria , declared according to the various conventions and programs of UNESCO as UNESCO cultural and natural heritage . The national contact point is the Austrian UNESCO Commission .
World heritage
There are ten World Heritage Sites in Austria (as of 2017). The first two World Heritage Sites were designated in 1996.
Three world heritage sites are cultural landscapes ( Neusiedlersee , Hallstatt – Dachstein , Wachau ) , three are urban landscapes (old towns Salzburg , Graz , Vienna ), two are a building (architectural / horticultural monument Schönbrunn and technical monument Semmeringbahn ), and one is an archaeological site ( stilt houses around the Alps ).
Until 2017 Austria only had world cultural heritage sites. With the inclusion of the Rothwald primeval forest and parts of the Kalkalpen National Park in the transnational World Heritage Site of Old Beech Forests and Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathian Mountains and other regions of Europe , Austria received its first World Heritage Site this year.
Global Geoparks
There are four UNESCO Global Geoparks in Austria (as of 2018). The first to be included in the Global Geoparks Network in 2004 was the Steirische Eisenwurzen Nature and Geopark .
Biosphere reserves
In Austria, three biosphere reserves (as of 2017) are recognized by UNESCO as part of the Man and the Biosphere program . Four other areas were once recognized, but were withdrawn from the program.
World document heritage
The World Soundtrack Awards Austria includes 12 entries (as of 2013), including
- 7 collections: ( papyrus collection , Gothic architectural drawings , Corviniana , historical collections of the phonogram archive , Schubert , Brahms collection , Schönberg estate ) and
- 5 individual objects ( Dioscurides , Congress Act 1815 , Atlas Blaeu-Van der Hem , Tabula Peutingeriana , Mainz Psalter ) .
The first document inheritance was identified in 1997.
Intangible cultural heritage
The intangible cultural heritage of Austria is represented with three entries on the representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity and one entry in the register of good practice examples .
The National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage comprises 52 entries (as of 2013). 6 of them can be found throughout Austria ( pharmacy house specialties , falconry , storytelling , folk dance , Silent Night - Christmas , charcoal burning ) , the rest in individual regions of the federal states. 7 are from the area of oral tradition , 5 performing arts , 24 social practices, rituals and celebrations , 6 knowledge and practices in dealing with nature and 9 from the area of craft techniques .
The first intangible heritage on the national list was designated in 2010. During the 7th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Preservation of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, which took place from 3rd to 7th December 2012 took place in Paris, the Imster Schemenwalking and falconry were included as the first entries from Austria in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
