The mechanization of agriculture , the abandonment of small farms and the resulting loss of jobs in the countryside have led to a continuous decline in the population in rural areas since the mid-19th century. Due to the location of the community on the E 5 or A-1 , however, new economic impulses have emerged. The municipality also includes the hamlets (pedanias) Turrubuelo and Aldeanueva del Campanario , each with about 10 inhabitants , which were incorporated in the 1970s .
economy
Boceguillas and the surrounding area are traditionally oriented towards agriculture and were a center of textile manufacture in the Middle Ages and early modern times ; Small traders, craftsmen and service providers of all kinds settled in the place. Today, in addition to agriculture and viticulture, tourism - mainly in the form of renting out holiday apartments (casas rurales) - plays a not insignificant economic role.
history
Small finds from Roman times have been discovered in the municipality , but there are no archaeologically usable traces of the Visigoths and even of the Arabs and Moors . After the victorious battle of Simancas , the Christians were able to extend their sphere of influence to the banks of the Duero . The towns to the south, including Segovia and Boceguillas, could not be recaptured from the hands of the Moors until the end of the 11th century ( reconquista ) . Philip II granted the place town rights (villa) in 1565 .
