Tolocirio is a place and a municipality (municipio) with 47 inhabitants (as of 2019) in the province of Segovia in the autonomous community of Castile-León in central Spain .
Location and climate
The place Tolocirio lies in the largely flat agricultural landscape of the Castilian Meseta about halfway between the cities of Valladolid and Segovia at an altitude of approx. 800 m . The next major city is Arévalo, approx. 14 km southwest . The climate is temperate to warm; the rather sparse rain (approx. 390 mm / year) falls spread over the year with the exception of the dry summer months.

The mechanization of agriculture , the abandonment of small farms and the resulting loss of jobs in the countryside have led to a continuous decline in the population since the middle of the 20th century.
economy
Tolocirio and the surrounding area are traditionally oriented towards agriculture and were a center of textile production in the Middle Ages and early modern times ; Small traders, craftsmen and service providers of all kinds settled in the place. Today agriculture and viticulture are the most important sources of income for the municipality.
history
Celtic , Roman , Visigoth and even Arab-Moorish traces are missing. The area was founded by Alfonso VI around 1082 . León recaptured ( reconquista ) , followed by Christians from the North or from the South ( Mudejar ) repopulated ( repoblación ) . The place name is first mentioned in a document from 1250.
Attractions
- The Iglesia de San Pedro , possibly built around the turn of the 12th to the 13th century in the Mudejar style in even layers of broken stone and bricks , is dedicated to the apostle Peter . Its special feature is the markedly increased, and with an inner protective space with walkway provided apse , the (added later) by buttresses is additionally stabilized brick. The rather inconspicuous nave (nave) preserves a Romanesque baptismal font (pila) , several figures of saints and a late Baroque altarpiece (retablo) in the style of Churriguerism .
- At the village, a fountain basin, which is also known as cattle trough (Abrevadero) and a washing area (lavadero) was used.
